But It Signaled A Lack Of Innovative Ideas That Would Only

After two sequels that mirrored the story of the original Jurassic Park movies, Jurassic World: Dominion can finally break apart from everything fans have seen so far. The beauty of Steven Spielberg's first Jurassic Park film came from seeing humans meet living breathing dinosaurs for the first time, and the conflict mainly derived from John Hammond's attempts to control the uncontrollable forces of nature. Set in the titular Jurassic Park, the original movie didn't have to go to great lengths to leave audiences in awe because the natural ferocity of the dinosaurs was enough to warrant thrilling action sequences.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park tried to up the ante with a darker tone and a more clear look at the dinosaurs, but it signaled a lack of innovative ideas that would only become more apparent in Jurassic Park III. Although still successful, the first two Jurassic Park sequels failed to capture the iconic thrills and character development of the original. Hence, fourteen years later, Jurassic World kickstarted a trilogy of sequels that tried to be true to the franchise's roots while updating it for modern audiences.

Jurassic World followed in Jurassic Park's giant footsteps and placed a group of charismatic heroes in a state-of-the-art amusement park full of prehistoric beasts. As is obvious, the park becomes hell on Earth for all its visitors. What Jurassic World does differently from Jurassic Park is that the scientists at InGen go one step ahead and create a brand-new dinosaur, while the human antagonist, Vic Hoskins, tries to weaponize the now-tamed velociraptors. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom further develops this plot while dealing with a volcanic eruption that destroys Isla Nublar, but like The Lost World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ends up bringing the dinosaurs to the U.S. mainland. Now, Jurassic World: Dominion's globetrotting plot has the chance to tell a story that has never been told before.

A big selling point of Jurassic World: Dominion is the returning cast, which includes Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm. However, the sequel's plot will take viewers on a trip around the world, which has already dealt with dinosaurs for around four years. Gone is the claustrophobic terror of an island and the secrecy of the humans' secret motivations. There are major discussions being held about the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs, as well as the clear effects that these animals have on the planet.

Major changes to the Jurassic World franchise may come late, but they promise to be exciting. With the Battle at the Big Rock short film and the Camp Cretaceous animated series pushing the Jurassic Park franchise toward new formats, future releases may pursue even more innovative narratives after Jurassic World: Dominion. What's for certain is that, after so many disasters throughout the years, humans are yet to understand that they cannot control the dinosaurs.
